Book Review, or Book Talk?

September 3, 2010 by Margaret Duarte

My original intent was to post a Book Review every Friday.  However, after some research, I realized I wasn’t writing Book Reviews, but Book Talks. There’s a difference, you see. A Book Talk is a sharing to motivate someone to read a book.  It’s informal and upbeat, and is not a book review, book report, or book analysis.

Examples of Book Talk blogs are:

  • Book talks–Quick and Simple Blog
  • Novel Thoughts and Book Talk
  • Book Talk

A Book Review, on the other hand, follows a standard procedure and includes such essentials as:

  • book title, author, copyright date, ISBN
  • author’s purpose
  • book’s theme and thesis
  • author’s support of thesis
  • evaluation of book for interest, accuracy, objectivity, etc.
  • further information about the author
  • summary, analysis, and comments on the book’s content

For a complete list of book review essentials, visit How to Write a Book Review.

Five Book Review blogs that do the job well are:

  • BookHounds
  • Becky’s Book Reviews
  • Crazy Bookworm

Oh, and just out of curiosity, which do you prefer, book reviews or book talks?

As always, thanks for stopping by,

I like the idea. There are so many reviews out there, opinions, but very few talks or discussions. Good for you. Looking forward to it.

Yes, Lee. There's a place for reviews, but I tend to talk about books that have moved or helped me in some way, you know, concentrate on the positive. So much more fun.
