Dire Plight of the Western Monarch Butterfly

January 12, 2020 by Margaret Duarte

In 2003, when I started writing book three of my “Enter the Between” fiction series, I knew the Monarch Butterfly would play a major role in the story: as part of the natural setting of Pacific Grove (home to my story and to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary) and as the symbolic representation of transformation and rebirth.

I’m saddened to read that attendees at the first-ever Western Monarch Summit currently being held in Carmel Valley (the setting of book one of my four-book series) are discussing the dire plight of the Western Monarch–a 99% drop since the 1990s.

Will the Western Monarch survive extinction or live on only between the covers of fiction?

As always, thanks for stopping by,

So visionary of you, Margaret! And yet so sad. Perhaps your beautiful story will create some energetic renewal! xo

I hope so, Rea. But the plight of the Monarch will take a huge effort. Hopefully all visionary fiction writers will help raise consciousness about taking better care of our environment before it’s too late.
