Mark Coker/Negative Virality/This Book Sucks!

September 30, 2012 by Margaret Duarte

I attended an E-book publishing workshop given by Mark Coker, founder and CEO of Smashwords. In it, he spoke of Negative Virality.

According to the online Oxford Dictionary, virality means the tendency of an image, video, or piece of information to be circulated rapidly and widely from one Internet user to another; the quality or fact of being viral.

So, if your book has negative virality, it is NOT circulated rapidly and widely and is NOT going viral.

In other words, your book sucks!!!!

Your first reader becomes your last reader.

Please, God, don’t let this happen to me.

I promise, I’ll consider the comments made by my Beta readers.

I promise, I’ll heed the advice of my critique partners.

I promise, I’ll edit, edit, edit.

I promise, not to publish before my book’s time.

Yes, I know, this is easier said than done. But I’ll try to hold off publishing until my book is as good as it can be.

How about you?

As always, thanks for stopping by,
