Dean Koontz/Some Angels Have Fur Instead of Wings

October 20, 2012 by Margaret Duarte

Today I received a large box in the mail from Dean Koontz, dismissing any further thought that the letter I received from him on Tuesday via email might have been a hoax.

Inside, I found three books, each bearing a note and signature from my now number one favorite author.

The first book was a memoir of his dog, Trixie, titled A BIG LITTLE LIFE, A MEMOIR OF A JOYFUL DOG, a book he said is close to his heart.  “To Margaret,” it says.  “Some angels have fur instead of wings.”

The other two books were ones he said he hoped “embodied some of the qualities of visionary fiction as I defined it.”  One is a copy of THE FACE, a collector’s edition limited to 500, signed and numbered (#52).  The book is encased in such a lovely cover, I’m afraid to touch it.  Maybe I’ll wear gloves!

The other is titled FROM THE CORNER OF HIS EYE and inscribed with: “To Margaret.  I’m sure He’s watching over you with both eyes and great care.”

On top of this, Dean Koontz wrote me a lovely note, which I will share on this blog later this week.

“Bet this made your day,” my husband said.

He doesn’t know the half of it.

As always, thanks for stopping by,

Oh wow. Dean Koontz presents himself as authentic and kind, which is a rare trait in this day and age. It makes me want to read his books. After I get through the current book I’m reading, I going to get the kindle edition of, THE FACE. The book blurb really caught me.

    Stay inspired, Margaret!

I am so impressed by Dean’s heart. And I am so thrilled for the inspiration and support he has shown the oh so deserving you!…and by virtue of that, I feel the inspiration, too!
As Eleni said, I am definitely now drawn to read his books.

I shouldn’t be surprised at his authenticity and kindness after reading so many of his books. It actually comes out in his writing. That said, his taking the time and trouble to send me three books with notes and signatures in all three is truly amazing.

Thanks, Jodine. I wonder sometimes if Dean realizes how many people he touches with his work, selling over four hundred million books worldwide. What a great feeling that must be. Also, considering that he is such a best seller, why take the time to show kindness to a single reader/blogger/writer like me? An amazing man.

Hi Seleena. More and more I believe in synchronicity. For a moment in time, Dean’s and my stories came together.
